'Blenheim Over RAF Wyton'-Limited Edition Giclee Print. Free P&P
'Blenheim over RAF Wyton' limited edition signed print features a Bristol Blenheim IV soaring above the main gate of RAF Wyton.
Only 50 limited edition signed prints will be printed and for every print sold, £5 will be donated to the Royal British Legion.
The story behind the painting:
In 1939, the Bristol Blenheim bomber N6125, piloted by Flying Officer McPherson from 139 Squadron RAF, took off from RAF Wyton, achieving a historic milestone as the first British aircraft of WW2 to carry out an operational (photo-reconnaissance) sortie over Germany. Sadly, McPherson later lost his life during the Battle of France in 1940.
My depiction showcases the Blenheim flying above RAF Wyton's contemporary entrance and serves as a tribute to McPherson and his crew. By juxtaposing the past and present, I intend to show the pivotal role both Flying Officer McPherson, his crew, and RAF Wyton played in the history of the Second World War.
After visiting the RAF Wyton Heritage Centre, Anna began her painting using historical photos and scale models as references. Meticulous research aided by the museum included studying the Blenheim manual to ensure historical accuracy. Creating this artwork employed a technique involving layers of acrylic paint and varnish to achieve its final form.
The original painting now hangs in the Blenheim Community Centre in RAF Wyton, Cambridgeshire.
